Fieldfisher appoints corporate partner

European law firm Fieldfisher has appointed Thomas Colmer as a partner in its corporate team in London.

Thomas joins Fieldfisher from PwC’s multi-disciplinary practice, where he has worked for more than five years leading the UK Legal Deals and Private Business team.

Thomas trained and worked at Norton Rose before becoming Head of M&A and General Counsel at global FinTech group ION Trading. Prior to joining PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal LLP as a partner, he also practiced at Osborne Clarke.

He has wide-ranging expertise focusing on high-growth corporates, financial institutions, entrepreneurs and founders in multiple sectors, particularly in technology, financial services and life sciences.

He brings over 20 years of experience in domestic and cross-border corporate transactions, with a broad portfolio encompassing mergers and acquisitions, private equity, growth equity, venture capital, joint ventures, management advisory, structuring and equity capital markets transactions. He is a ranked lawyer in Legal500 for corporate and commercial M&A.

Thomas will join Fieldfisher’s leading international corporate group as a partner on 1 October.

Neil Matthews, Head of the Corporate group at Fieldfisher, says: “We are delighted to welcome Thomas as a partner and senior hire to our thriving corporate team.

“His joining Fieldfisher will add first class experience and firepower to our growing M&A, growth equity, venture capital and technology practices, which are increasingly recognised among the European legal industry’s top transactional teams.

“Fieldfisher has serious ambitions to further grow the reach and reputation of its corporate group over the next few years and I am looking forward to working with Thomas on achieving these aims.”

Colmer says: “I am excited to be joining Fieldfisher which has a clear strategy to become one of the leading advisers in corporate legal transactions.

“My varied experience and background, which encompasses large international and mid-market private practice, in-house counsel and leading a successful team in one of the ‘Big Four’ professional services firms, sets me in good stead to help strengthen and expand Fieldfisher’s impressive corporate profile.

“The recent explosion of activity in the M&A, growth equity, venture capital and technology markets means this is an excellent time to be joining such an agile, go-getting firm.”
