Taiwan Life and Cathay Life make new capital commitments to VC and PE funds

Taiwanwese Insurers Taiwan Life and Cathay Life have both made new capital commitments to venture capital and private equity funds – Taiwan Life US20 million to to the latest venture capital vehicle of local VC firm Taiwania Capital, and Cathay Life Insurance $30 million to private equity fund Platinum Equity Capital Partners VI, according to a report by DealStreetAsia.

Taiwania Capital Buffalo Fund VI, is reported to be looking to raise up to $200 million in capital commitments and will, like its predecessor funds, focus on investments in early-stage tech startups in Taiwan.

Taiwania Capital was founded in August 2017 by the National Development Fund of Taiwan and private enterprises.

Platinum Private Equity VI, meanwhile, is the latest buyout vehicle from Platinum Equity, a US-based private equity firm with more than $23 billion of assets under management and a portfolio of approximately 40 operating companies.

The company focuses on carve-outs from Fortune 500 companies, public-to-private transitions, and specialty acquisitions from a wide range of private sellers.
