Troy Broderick has been promoted to be the new chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs Group’s global mergers and acquisitions business, according to report by Reuters citing an internal memo as confirming the appointment.

The memo, sent by the bank’s co-heads of global M&A, Stephan Feldgoise and Mark Sorrell, also reveals that Broderick, who currently leads Goldman’s global M&A capital markets business, will continue to hold his current position in addition to his new responsibilities.

Broderick, who joined Goldman in 2010 as an analyst in UK Equity Capital Markets, succeeds Russ Hutchinson who left bank in March to take up the position of chief financial officer at online banking company Ally Financial.

In his time at Goldman, Broderick has worked on deals in the technology, media and telecommunications sectors within the bank’s investment banking division.
