HSBC has bolstered its private equity team in Hong Kong with the addition of Jonathan Au-Yeung to the the bank’s financial sponsors coverage group in the region, according to a report by eFinancial Careers. Au-Yeung joins HSBC after more the 13 years with Australian bank ANZ.
Most recently, Au-Yeung was ANZ’s head of research and analysis for financial sponsors in Asia, having previously worked with the bank’s financial institutions before moving to Hong Kong from Melbourne.
HSBC is building up its financial sponsors team as banks in general are looking to private equity firms to kick-start global M&A activity again by deploying some of their massive reserves of “dry powder”.
