Mid-market European private equity firm Industri Kapital has announced the change of its name to IK Investment Partners, reflecting the evolution of the firm’s investment and geographic focus.

Since it was founded in 1989, the firm has broadened its offering from its original focus on manufacturing in the Scandinavian markets to a broader range of traditional sectors including services, health care, food and specialised processing as well as retail on a pan-European scale.

IK has established teams in Benelux, France and Germany that today represent half of the firm’s investment activity in addition to its strong position in the Nordic region. The firm is independently owned by its 13 partners and has a team of more than 30 investment professionals at offices in Hamburg, London, Oslo, Paris and Stockholm.

Since its establishment the firm has raised some EUR5.7bn in six funds and invested in 67 companies. Its latest fund, Industri Kapital 2007, raised EUR1.7bn and closed in October 2007, and the firm’s current portfolio encompasses 20 companies with total turnover of nearly EUR7bn.

IK says it will continue its strategy of investing in mid-market companies in the Nordic region and continental Europe with the potential for growth and profit improvement, using the firm’s industrial knowledge, experience and network to accelerate growth and create value both organically and through acquisitions.

‘Our new name, IK Investment Partners, reflects our broad European reach and sector focus,’ says executive chairman Björn Savén. ‘We look forward to continuing our successful strategy of working closely with our portfolio companies to grow their businesses and transform national businesses into international leaders.’
