New investment management business Bread Street Capital Partners Ltd launched

Alex Barr and James Witter have launched Bread Street Capital Partners Ltd (Bread Street), a new investment management business specialising in broadening investor access to global private markets including private equity, infrastructure, private debt and real assets. Between them, Witter and Barr have over 60 years of investment and capital markets experience and have managed or overseen GBP60 billion of private markets assets.

Bread Street will launch private markets portfolios that deliver responsible thematic, financing stage or manager exposures, and focus initially on developing a series of innovative stock-exchange listed private markets funds. Bread Street will also provide complete private markets solutions to asset managers including investment advisory, legacy portfolio rationalisation, operating framework design and risk oversight services.

Managing Partners, Barr and Witter, will lead the strategic growth of the business, its investment pipeline growth and management of the company’s first listed investment fund. Former Chief Operating Officer of The Big Exchange, Abigail Sater, has been appointed COO.

Barr says: “We are delighted to launch Bread Street Capital Partners as the UK starts to return to the office. Private Markets is the most exciting growth area in asset management yet most investors remain under allocated and miss the opportunity the asset class presents to enhance returns. We anticipate that Bread Street will become a key partner for institutional and professional clients who need client driven private markets expertise.”

Witter adds: “We create bespoke portfolios and products across private markets, including private equity, infrastructure, private debt and real assets. We are experts in managing stock exchange listed funds, responsible investing and engagement and investment oversight. For clients with mature portfolios, we offer tried and tested expertise in providing clear, unconflicted end of fund life advice, options and execution.”

Witter says: “Abigail worked with Alex and me at Aberdeen Standard Investments. She brings outstanding distribution and operational expertise to our firm.”

Barr has over 28 years of industry experience and has held senior investment roles at Janus Henderson, Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) and Deutsche Asset Management. He has lead-managed two London Stock Exchange listed investment companies (Aberdeen Private Equity Fund Ltd, Henderson Alternative Strategies Trust Plc) and has held roles at ASI including Head of Private Equity and Global Head of Private Markets Investment Oversight.

Witter has over 34 years industry experience, and has held senior roles at ASI, SVG Advisers, Nomura and Merrill Lynch. He has lead-managed several Irish Stock Exchange listed vehicles including Aberdeen Private Equity Global FOF plc. He was most recently Head of Private Equity Portfolio Management at ASI where he was responsible for over 40 investment portfolios for private markets clients including listed investment funds, financial institutions and UK local authorities.

Sater was COO at The Big Exchange, a platform for independently rated impact funds from the biggest names in sustainable investing, and led business management for Global Distribution Strategy at ASI.

Bread Street Capital Partners has agreed terms with Langham Hall Fund Management LLP to provide host AIFM services and FCA Appointed Representative regulatory cover.
