Nine Carey Olsen lawyers in the Caribbean recognised by Chambers Global

Nine lawyers from Carey Olsen’s Caribbean region have been recognised in the 2018 Chambers Global Rankings, including lawyers from Carey Olsen Bermuda (in association with Carey Olsen), which was established earlier this month.

Carey Olsen’s Cayman Islands team was promoted in the corporate and finance category of the rankings, while office managing partner Jarrod Farley is featured as a notable practitioner for his work on investment funds. Described by various sources as ‘super-bright and super-efficient’, his ability to handle the most complex of matters and his particular expertise acting on Israel-related matters was also highlighted, with onshore counsel regarding him ‘as a go-to person for Israeli hedge fund principals’.

Fellow Cayman Islands partner Nick Bullmore was singled out as a notable practitioner for both his investment funds work and his advice on corporate and finance matters. Described by sources as an ‘excellent lawyer’ with ‘a great reputation’, he was also praised for being able to ‘answer any question we throw at him without hesitation’.

Farley says: “We are delighted to have once again been recognised by Chambers Global. These rankings demonstrate the expertise of our lawyers and the strong relationships we have formed with our clients and we thank them for their endorsements.”

Jan Golaszewski, who leads the dispute resolution team in the Cayman Islands, is recognised for his extensive experience in multi-jurisdictional commercial litigation with sources describing him as ‘a top lawyer’ and someone who ‘combines sound advice with strong technical ability’.

Cayman Islands partner Sam Dawson is noted for his expertise in insolvency and restructuring with one market insider highlighting their ‘respect for his approach. He analyses things coherently and thoughtfully’. Denis Olarou, an associate in the Cayman Islands office, enters the rankings for the first time as an Associate-to-Watch. Clients endorsed his conscientious approach and that he was ‘a real superstar and a standout associate at the firm’.

Carey Olsen’s British Virgin Islands (BVI) litigation and dispute resolution group is noted for its impressive growth and increasingly high profile. BVI partner Ben Mays is singled out as a notable practitioner and someone who is frequently instructed by financial institutions and well-known corporations. One source said they ‘completely trust his judgement and the advice he gives’, while another praised his ‘very good tactical awareness’.

In addition, Carey Olsen’s BVI managing partner Clinton Hempel was ranked for his expertise in corporate and finance matters. He was recognised for his extensive experience acting for high net worth individuals and leading investment banks on a wide variety of BVI law matters.

Michael Hanson and Keith Robinson from Carey Olsen Bermuda are also featured. Robinson, a partner in Bermuda, is ranked in the guide and recognised for his particular emphasis on Bermudian trust disputes and hailed as ‘a fine trusts lawyer’. Mr Hanson is recognised as ‘very knowledgeable’ and that ‘his responsiveness is unbelievable!’

Hanson says: “Carey Olsen Bermuda is a brand new entrant in Bermuda so it’s very encouraging to see prominent recognition from a respected publication like Chambers Global so quickly. It reflects the calibre and strength of our offering in Bermuda even at this very early stage.”
