Stoxx, the European index provider established as a joint venture between Deutsche Börse, Dow Jones and SWX Group, has launched the Dow Jones Stoxx Private Equity 20 Index, designed to become the underlying basis for investment products.

The Dow Jones Stoxx Private Equity 20 Index tracks the performance of the 20 largest private equity companies in Europe, comprising companies classified as specialty finance or equity investment instruments according to the Industry Classification Benchmark.

To be eligible for inclusion, companies must have a free-float market capitalisation of at least EUR75m euros and their main involvement, defined as a minimum of 40 per cent of their investment portfolio, in private equity areas such as venture capital, mezzanine and buy-out.

Stoxx says that in addition, the investments of components of the Dow Jones Stoxx Private Equity 20 Index in companies that are included in the Dow Jones Stoxx Global 1800 Index are restricted to 30 per cent.

The Private Equity 20 Index is calculated both in euros and US dollar and is reviewed quarterly in March, June, September and December. Daily historical index values of the index are available back to December 31, 2003.

As of August 31, the Dow Jones Stoxx Private Equity 20 Index had a three-year annualised performance of 27.4 per cent, compared with an annualised 12.7 per cent for the Dow Jones Stoxx 50 Index over the same time period.
