The Asia Council will help EMPEA deepen its Asia-focused content and programming and advise EMPEA on identifying the issues of critical importance to the Asia-based community. The formal launch of the Asia Council follows a preparatory meeting held last March in Hong Kong, and the successful establishment of EMPEA’s Africa Council last fall.

Philip Bilden (pictured), Managing Director at HarbourVest Partners (Asia) Limited, a global fund of funds, will serve as the inaugural Chair of the Asia Council.

“As a global investor, HarbourVest has witnessed the powerful impact of EMPEA’s work with LPs and GPs across the globe," he say. "Investors look to EMPEA for insight and analysis that puts investment trends across the emerging markets into a global context.  As industry leaders in Asia, the job of the Council is to guide EMPEA in tailoring its programs to meet the unique needs of its Asian members, while also working to ensure that Asian members’ interests are well represented in EMPEA’s global mandate.”

Sarah Alexander, President and CEO of EMPEA adds: “The formation of our Asia Council is a first step in responding to our members’ needs for still further depth to EMPEA’s Asian programming and research. We look forward to working closely each member of the Council in supporting the ongoing development of private equity in Asia and in enriching our coverage of these dynamic markets.”

ʉ۬The Asia Council will be convening in Hong Kong ahead of the inaugural Asia Private Equity Forum on 19 January 2011, organised by the Hong Kong Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (HKVCA) in global strategic partnership with EMPEA.
