VantagePoint Venture Partners has announced the appointment as a venture partner and a member of the cleantech investment team of US environmental activist Robert F.

VantagePoint Venture Partners has announced the appointment as a venture partner and a member of the cleantech investment team of US environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy jr, nephew of President John F. Kennedy and son of his brother, the US attorney-general and New York senator Robert F. Kennedy.

Kennedy jr has been a member of VantagePoint’s cleantech advisory council since 2007.

As a venture partner, he will become more involved with VantagePoint portfolio companies, particularly with regard to the water sector, enhancing the existing team and contributing experience and expertise to the firm’s diverse portfolio of cleantech investments.

Kennedy has taken board positions with two VantagePoint portfolio companies, Premium Power, a manufacturer of energy storage solutions, and Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies, a wastewater remediation company producing environmentally safe commercial fertiliser.

‘Bobby has a longstanding history providing environmental counsel to the firm and we are very pleased to see his position evolve into one that takes a more engaged role with our portfolio companies and the overall investment strategy at VantagePoint,’ says managing partner and chief executive Alan Salzman.

Says Kennedy: ‘I remain deeply concerned about the resource challenges we will face in our future, and believe that in joining VantagePoint I will gain a unique opportunity to both advocate for environmental stewardship and help build entrepreneurial solutions to address substantial problems.’

Kennedy is president of Waterkeeper Alliance, chief prosecuting attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper, and senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council. He is also a clinical professor and supervising attorney at Pace University School of Law’s Environmental Litigation Clinic.
