Malwarebytes acquires Binisoft

Malwarebytes, a malware prevention and remediation solution, has acquired Binisoft to strengthen its platform for protecting endpoints by integrating the top Windows Firewall Control tool.

The management software allows admins quick access to Windows Firewall settings and enhances the management functionality of networking rules for each application.

Continued increases in cyber threats, including malware that communicates and coordinates data theft and other malicious attacks, means it is more important than ever to deploy tools that allow better management of a user’s Windows Firewall. Doing so ultimately enables the user to manage networking rules for each application in a more secure, ongoing manner.

“Malwarebytes wanted a Windows Firewall control tool that could easily and quickly integrate into the Malwarebytes platform,” says Marcin Kleczynski, CEO, Malwarebytes. “The Binisoft Windows Firewall Control was the perfect choice for better management of firewall control options, setting up rules for each program and application and delivering a more secure environment for our customers. Binisoft is the best tool on the market to manage the native firewall from Windows. We believe that massive adoption of Binisoft proves our assertion.”

Binisoft Windows Firewall Control is a powerful tool that extends the functionality of the Windows Firewall, provides new features, and improves the management experience and application rules of the tool’s settings. It runs in the system tray, allowing the user control of the native firewall easily, without having to waste time navigating to specific parts of the firewall. The tool also includes the capability to display notifications for outbound blocked connections. These notifications are delivered via two modes: Display Notifications, which highlight notifications for blocked outgoing connections and Learning Mode, which enables digitally signed programs. Binisoft Windows Firewall Control manages the native firewall from Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Server 2016 and Server 2012.

The icon in the system tray is easy to use allowing the user to select a security profile ranging from no filtering (turns off Windows Firewall) to high filtering mode (blocks all inbound and outbound connections). For rules management, admins or users can allow or deny access to any application, disable, modify or delete rules from the current rule set and merge or create duplicate rules.

Binisoft Windows Firewall Control will quickly integrate into the Malwarebytes platform. The Malwarebytes platform makes deployment and ongoing management of Malwarebytes security solutions uncomplicated. Administrators benefit from broader visibility into endpoints existing within their environment. Additionally, the solutions do not require a constant connection to the platform, meaning users are still protected when they are not connected.

For the near term, Binisoft will retain its current name, supplemented by Malwarebytes branding. Malwarebytes is committed to maintaining the mission of the Binisoft products and its features.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
