BlackRock appoints three senior researchers

BlackRock has appointed Elga Bartsch as Head of Economic and Markets Research for the BlackRock Investment Institute (BII). In her new role, Bartsch will lead BII’s research on global macroeconomic topics and will be based in London.

Prior to joining BlackRock, Bartsch had a very successful career at Morgan Stanley spanning more than two decades and was most recently Morgan Stanley’s Chief European Economist & Global Co-Head of Economics.

Philipp Hildebrand, Vice Chairman of BlackRock, says: “We are delighted that Elga Bartsch has joined the BlackRock Investment Institute. She is a world renowned market economist with extensive experience notably on Europe, monetary policy and the economics of sustainability and climate change. She brings a wealth of experience and will help continue to strengthen our commitment to delivering exceptional economic analysis and insights for our clients.”

The BlackRock Investment Institute continues to invest into its global research platform with the goal of helping portfolio managers become even better investors and to deliver thought-provoking investment insights to clients. To this end, it has appointed two additional senior experts to its global research team:

Tara Rice joined the BII as Deputy Head of Economic and Markets Research in June. Prior to joining BlackRock, Rice led the work at the Financial Stability Board Secretariat on evaluating the effects of the G20 financial regulatory reforms. She previously served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Financial Stability and Regulation at the US Department of Treasury; and worked for more than a decade in the Federal Reserve System.

Ludovic Phalippou, professor of financial economics at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, has joined BII as a part-time advisor on private markets. Phalippou specialises in private equity and asset management. He is the author of the best-selling book “Private Equity laid bare” and in 2016 was named one of the 20 most influential people in Private Equity by the industry magazine Real Deals.

Jean Boivin, Global Head of Research for the Blackrock Investment Institute, says: “The appointments of Elga Bartsch, Tara Rice and Ludovic Phalippou are testament to the breadth and depth of the BlackRock Investment Institute’s research capabilities, and we are delighted to be able to offer our investors and clients even more profound insights into the key trends and developments shaping markets today.”
