Orange España buys Spanish division of SUMA Mobile from Alantra Private Equity-backed Grupo Ingenium

The sale is limited to the SUMA Mobile business unit in Spain, excluding the operations of SUMA in other countries.

SUMA Móvil Spain began offering its services in 2012 as a mobile services platform on the MVNA technology of JSC Ingenium -a subsidiary of Grupo Ingenium-, using the radio network of Orange in Spain. Since then, it has deployed more than 30 mobile telephone brands, making it the number one platform in Spain and a benchmark in the virtual operators sector at an international level. In 2019, it incorporated to its commercial offer its new optical fibre service -FTTH- becoming the first independent multi-service convergent platform in Spain.

The MVNA technology developed internally by JSC Ingenium, a division of Grupo Ingenium specialised in the design and development of technology for mobile virtual operators (MVNOs), has allowed SUMA Spain to have a robust, reliable and secure convergent services platform, and to differentiate itself by offering the most demanding levels of autonomy, independence and flexibility, both in the operation and maintenance of the service, as well as in the design and deployment of new and innovative services that allow, in turn, to improve the competitive positioning of its customers.
With this operation, Orange España strengthens its wholesale business and becomes the reference network operator for convergent services – mobile telephony and fibre – in Spain for small and medium-sized companies that wish to launch their own convergent offers of tailor-made Telco services on the market.

The objective of the agreement reached between Orange España and Grupo Ingenium is to maintain the current commitments with all the operators hosted in SUMA, in order to guarantee the continuity of the operation, in such a way that the change of ownership does not affect at any time the subscribers, who will be able to continue using all the services contracted with the same level of service and without having to change their SIM card. To this end, JSC Ingenium will continue to offer the platform’s technical support service under the same conditions with which it is operating today.
This operation will allow Grupo Ingenium to reinforce the activity of the other divisions of the group -JSC Ingenium, Alineasol, Alai Secure and SUMA International-, both in Spain and abroad. It will also allow Grupo Ingenium to undertake new Telco business projects and continue with the firm’s commitment to internal R&D, which has always allowed the company to count on its own-developed state-of-the-art technology.

Sergio Cano, CEO of Grupo Ingenium, says: “In 2012 we began this exciting adventure with the clear objective of helping our customers to make their mobile business projects a reality, always offering state-of-the-art technology and always seeking to offer excellence in customer service. During all this time we have deployed more than 30 operators in Spain from different sectors, with different business models and positions, which has led us to become the first independent convergent multi-service platform in our country and a reference at the international level. All these has been thanks to the trust and support that our customers have given us since the beginning, key to the success of SUMA Móvil in Spain”.
