Scaleup expands team

ScaleUp Capital, which specialises in investing in and supporting scaling B2B tech businesses with revenues of GBP1 million to GBP10 million, has appointed David Sparrow, as an Investment Director, and Oliver Yandell as a Strategy Analyst.

ScaleUp Capital differentiates itself as an investment platform with its Scaler Programme, working closely with its portfolio of businesses to ensure access to both capital and support needed to grow a business successfully. The additional resource and growth plans for ScaleUp will feed directly into the ambitions of the programme – providing the right support and expertise needed to help address challenges from skills gaps, to product development, sales, and marketing.

ScaleUp Capital is looking to grow its internal team from 10 to 15 employees in the next year, as it extends its Scaler Programme that helps portfolio companies grow by accessing proven methodologies in critical areas that support sustainable growth.

David Sparrow brings seven years’ experience in M&A and investment, having spent the last four years at Equiteq as an M&A specialist. As an Investment Director at ScaleUp Capital, he will work closely with our portfolio to continue to provide the resource they need to scale, as well as source new investment opportunities.

Oliver Yandell joins as an analyst and will work closely with Strategy Director, Michael Panagopoulos. Oliver will support the strategy function of our Scaler Programme as well as the strategic analysis of potential scale-ups.

ScaleUp Capital listed digital mental healthcare business Kooth on AIM (cGBP120 million market cap) in 2020, and are considering a listing for Digital Theatre, a streaming platform and educational resource for live theatre. They recently announced investment in InStep, an apprenticeship and commercial training provider, and imageHOLDERS, which makes tablet kiosks at McDonalds, both of which are experiencing a surge in demand post-pandemic.

Simon Philips, CEO of ScaleUp Capital, says: “Growing our team is essential if we are to meet our ambitions to scale, and at the same time accelerate the growth of our portfolio. We have exciting plans to build out our proven methodology to scale digital businesses through the Scaler Programme. We are excited to have both David and Oliver join our team at ScaleUp Capital and we look forward to seeing the impact they will make on the growth of our portfolio and individual businesses.”
