Waypoint Partners, a growth and corporate advisory firm to the creative, marketing and related technology sectors has promoted Matthew Lacey to Partner. He becomes part of the leadership team that includes partners Otto Stevens, Jim Houghton and Phil Gripton.

Lacey has been with Waypoint since 2015 after building his corporate finance career at ACF Investment Bank, an international specialist in the media and entertainment space.  He joined Waypoint three years after it launched to the market, working initially with both growth advisory and corporate finance clients before focusing on the latter and helping drive growth and breadth of activity.

Lacey’s promotion is part of Waypoint’s ambition to be the most influential advisers in the sector globally, via a senior team with a market-leading skill-set, experience base and network that gives it the gravitas to influence clients, buyers, investors and the market at large.

Waypoint is unique in the way that it operates across both growth and corporate advisory, bringing the two together holistically. This allows it to support clients early on in their growth cycle through to exit and beyond, enabling decision-making that drives success.

Houghton says: “From the start of Matt’s career he knew he wanted the challenger roles and opportunities that would allow him to build hands-on experience of deal-making as early and as fast as possible; we’ve been fortunate to benefit from that experience.

“Matt is brilliant at keeping his network fresh, having an open dialogue with buyers and investors across every part of the industry, knowing what they want and joining up the dots, bringing both creativity and deep knowledge to deal-making. That is what we mean at Waypoint by influence, and Matt does is incredibly well.”

Lacey adds: “The Waypoint culture thrives on curiosity and challenge, and I’ve had the privilege of working with a trusted set of people who brought me into decisions from day one. I knew this was a place I wanted to invest in and I’m so pleased that my commitment to the firm has translated into this Partner role.

“Empathy and a deep understanding of client outcomes is at the heart of Waypoint’s approach to deal-making. I like to think that my background and route into the industry allow me to bring a different kind of creative eye to how we do things, helping deliver a client experience that is second to none. Sometimes this means I don’t take the well-trodden path, but Waypoint gives me and our clients the opportunity to do things differently.”

Lacey also plays a key role in building Waypoint’s company culture, leading the charge on people development with a focus on driving greater diversity in a part of the industry that can be difficult to access.
