Blackstone invests $300m in DDN at a $5bn valuation

AI and data intelligence solutions provider DNN has secured a $300m investment from Blackstone’s Tactical Opportunities fund, valuing the company at $5bn, to support its ability to meet the demand for AI and high-performance computing infrastructure.

According to a recent press release, DDN, founded in 1998, serves various industries, including financial services, life sciences, the public sector, and AI hyperscalers such as xAI and Lambda.

The company supports over 500,000 NVIDIA GPUs and provides a high-performance data intelligence platform that powers NVIDIA clusters. DDN’s solutions provide fast data access for analysis and processing, with high throughput and low latency, which are critical for AI and HPC workloads. The platform supports quick data ingestion, real-time processing, and faster insights, helping companies deploy large language models (LLMs), generative AI, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) technologies.

Jas Khaira, Head of Blackstone Tactical Opportunities, Americas, said: “The digital infrastructure powering the AI revolution continues to be among our highest conviction investment themes at Blackstone. DDN’s solutions are trusted by many of the most important AI companies in the world and are critical to the next phase of development for transformative AI deployments. We are thrilled to be the first institutional investor in DDN and help further strengthen its market leadership for high-intensity AI workloads.”

With data centre holdings across the US, Europe, India, and Japan, Blackstone has made significant investments in AI infrastructure, including a recent stake in CoreWeave, a provider of specialised cloud infrastructure for AI.
