Private credit top asset class for past three years, says Mubadala

Private credit has delivered the best returns for Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Investment over the past three years, according to a report by Bloomberg citing the sovereign wealth fund’s deputy group Chief Executive Officer, Waleed Al Mokarrab.

Speaking in a Bloomberg Television interview at Davos, Al Mokarrab highlighted the fund’s ability to generate strong returns in private credit without taking excessive risk. “At least over the past two or three years, we’ve been achieving some pretty good returns associated with that,” he said, without providing detailed figures.

Mubadala, which manages $330bn in assets, has established six private credit partnerships across the US, Europe, and Asia, including with Apollo Global Management and Blue Owl Capital.

Mubadala deployed $29.2bn in 2024, making it the world’s most active sovereign investor, and is one of Abu Dhabi’s three primary sovereign wealth funds, which collectively manage $1.7tn in assets.
