BCI Private Equity appoints MD in healthcare investments team

British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), one of Canada’s largest institutional investors, has appointed Nikhil Hanmantgad as Managing Director in its Private Equity arm, strengthening the firm’s global healthcare investment team.

Hanmantgad, who reports to Jon Salon, Senior Managing Director for Healthcare at BCI Private Equity, will focus on sourcing and executing new investments in the healthcare sector and driving value creation across the existing portfolio. His appointment underscores BCI’s ongoing emphasis on expanding its healthcare platform, a sector experiencing strong momentum globally.

Bringing two decades of experience in healthcare investing and operations, Hanmantgad has executed more than $2.5bn in growth equity and buyout transactions. He joins from Mubadala, the $330bn UAE sovereign wealth fund, where he was Senior Principal for U.S. healthcare. Previously, he held roles at Health Catalyst Capital and served as CEO of MedTools, a healthcare IT business, and has held board positions across multiple portfolio companies.

BCI’s Private Equity program continues to expand globally, recently opening its European office in London. The firm now has over 70 professionals across Victoria, New York, and London, investing across geographies and market cycles with a focus on proactive liquidity management.
