US healthcare services firm Premier has agreed to be acquired by an affiliate of private investment firm Patient Square Capital in a take-private transaction valued at $2.6bn, according to a report by Reuters.
Premier, headquartered in North Carolina, partners with hospitals, health systems, and other providers to reduce costs and improve patient outcomes through coordinated purchasing of equipment and supplies. The company said that moving to private ownership would enhance its financial flexibility as the healthcare sector continues to evolve.
Patient Square will acquire Premier for $28.25 per share in cash, representing a 9.7% premium to its last closing price. The deal, which follows Premier’s 2023 strategic review and sale of non-core assets for $800m, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026.
