Nexi rejects TPG bid for digital banking unit

Italian payments group Nexi has decided not to proceed with a proposed sale of its digital banking assets to US private equity firm TPG following a review by its board, according to a report by Reuters.

The decision follows reports that Nexi’s second-largest shareholder, Italy’s state-backed lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, had opposed the sale of a majority stake in the unit.

The digital banking division provides technology solutions across open banking, corporate banking services, and interbank clearing systems. The business generated €155m in core earnings for Nexi in 2025.
