Bain Capital Private Credit deploys $6bn across 58 middle-market deals

Bain Capital’s Private Credit Group deployed approximately $6bn across 58 middle-market companies during the first six months of 2026, as PE-backed acquisitions, refinancings and add-on transactions continued to generate demand for private debt, according to a report by CityBiz.

The deployment represented one of the group’s busiest investment periods in recent years, with 34 of the companies financed during the period representing new platforms.

Bain also closed more than $2.2bn of new capital for investments during the first half. As of 30 June, its dedicated Private Credit Group managed approximately $24bn across a portfolio of more than 273 middle-market businesses.

The activity highlights the continued role of private credit as a source of financing for private equity sponsors, particularly for transactions requiring certainty of execution or greater structural flexibility than is typically available through syndicated markets.

Bain deployed capital across multiple parts of the capital structure during the period, including senior secured and unsecured debt, preferred equity and common equity.

More than $200m of junior capital was invested across several new platforms, demonstrating the firm’s willingness to move beyond traditional senior lending when transaction structures require additional financing flexibility.

Bain acted as majority lender on approximately 72% of its new commitments during the first half. Borrowers receiving those commitments had weighted average EBITDA of approximately $56m, placing the majority of activity firmly within the firm’s core middle-market focus.

Michael Ewald, partner and global head of Bain Capital’s Private Credit Group, said the first half represented one of the business’s most active investment periods in recent years.

Baon targets companies generating between $10m and $150m of EBITDA across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

The firm’s private credit platform has more than 25 years of experience investing in middle-market private debt and has deployed more than $39bn across 644 portfolio companies since inceptio
