Brookfield secures $1bn mandate from UK Nuclear Liabilities Fund

Brookfield Asset Management has secured a $1bn commitment from the UK’s Nuclear Liabilities Fund (NLF), giving the investment manager capital to deploy across a range of private market strategies, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The mandate will be managed by Brookfield’s Investment Solutions Group, a division launched last year to serve institutional investors, family offices and private wealth clients with customised multi-asset portfolios.

Rather than allocating the capital to a single fund, Brookfield plans to invest across infrastructure, energy, private equity, real estate and private credit. The portfolio will combine fund investments with direct investments and co-investments, according to a statement seen by Bloomberg.

The NLF was established to meet the future costs associated with decommissioning the UK’s nuclear power stations. It had £20.7bn ($28bn) in assets as of March 2025, giving it a substantial pool of long-term capital to deploy.

Brookfield said it expects to recycle returns generated by the portfolio into new investment opportunities over time.
