Asian PE firms including FountainVest and HSG are among investors considering bids for Italian motorcycle protection equipment maker Alpinestars, in a potential transaction that could value the business at around €1bn ($1.2bn), according to a report by Bloomberg.
The report cites unnamed people familiar with the matter as saying that the firms are separately evaluating possible offers for Alpinestars. The company is working with a financial adviser on a potential sale, although discussions remain ongoing and no final decision has been made.
Alpinestars said it regularly receives investment proposals but remains focused on its long-term growth strategy, including product innovation, motorcycle and cycling safety, and international expansion.
The business was founded in 1963 and remains owned by the Mazzarolo family. The company manufactures protective equipment including motorcycle boots, helmets, jackets and gloves, as well as airbag safety systems and sportswear.
Its products are used by competitors in major motorsport series including MotoGP and Formula One.
