Bain Capital weighs $15bn-plus Edged deal in US data centre push

Bain Capital is among the private equity firms bidding for Edged, the US data centre developer and operator owned by Koch, in a transaction that could value the business at more than $15bn, according to a report by Bloomberg.

A deal would represent a significant expansion of Bain’s presence in the US data centre market, following a period in which the firm has been relatively cautious about investing directly in the infrastructure supporting the artificial intelligence boom.

The report cites unnamed people familiar with the matter as saying that Bain has held discussions about acquiring Edged, which was founded by Koch and entrepreneur Jakob Carnemark to develop, build and operate data centres. Koch Real Estate Investments, part of Koch, is running the sale process with Goldman Sachs and Newmark advising.

No transaction has been agreed though, and discussions could still end without a deal, the people said.

Edged operates seven data centres in the US, including a 169-megawatt campus in Atlanta, and has additional facilities under development.
