ACP Capital, a merchant bank and asset manager focused on European small and medium-sized enterprises, has established ACP Capital NextEnergy Initiative, a platform for the acquisition and development of renewable energy assets in Italy and southern Europe, through its soon to be launched subsidiary, ACP Capital Infrastructure.
ACP Capital NextEnergy Initiative has received initial equity commitments of EUR50m from ACP Capital, Michael Bonte-Friedheim and Stefano Sommadossi, with ACP Capital having majority control. The company will enter into a third-party management agreement with NextEnergy Capital, a company founded and owned by Bonte-Friedheim and Sommadossi for the sourcing and operation of renewable energy opportunities.
ACP Capital NextEnergy Initiative represents the first investment for ACP Capital’s planned infrastructure vehicle, ACP Capital Infrastructure, which is expected to be launched this year and will invest throughout Europe in infrastructure assets such as rolling stock, containers, transport and renewable energy such as wind farms, photovoltaic cells and hydroelectric plants.
ACP Capital says the establishment of the renewable energy initiative underlines the development of its presence in Italy and other southern European markets and represents a step toward its aim of becoming a leading integrated finance provider in key sectors such as infrastructure.
‘The creation of ACP Capital NextEnergy Initiative is an important step in building ACP Capital’s infrastructure business in Europe,’ says Alexander Koch, head of ACP Capital Infrastructure. ‘Together with our partners at NextEnergy we plan to grow it into a meaningful and stable asset platform that will benefit from the remarkable growth potential offered by the European renewable sector.’
