Grant Thornton LLP, the US member firm of Grant Thornton International, has announced that Harris Smith, previously the west region managing partner, has been appointed managing partner of private equity and strategic relationships.
As managing partner for private equity, Smith oversees a team of professionals who provide services to private equity firms, professionals and portfolio companies. Throughout the lifecycle of a fund, the private equity team delivers audit, tax, transaction and other specialty services.
As managing partner for strategic relationships, Smith is also responsible for the development and enhancement of strategic relationships. In this role, he works to further elevate the firm’s reputation, build the brand, and create relationships with key organisations to aid in Grant Thornton’s growth.
Smith is also chairman of the Association for Corporate Growth, a global organisation for professionals involved in corporate growth, corporate development and mergers and acquisitions.
‘We are pleased to name Harris managing partner of both private equity and strategic relationships,’ says Grant Thornton chief executive Ed Nusbaum. ‘His private equity expertise and strong leadership across several practices make him the perfect candidate for these highly visible, strategic roles. We look forward to Harris’s contributions to the expansion of the Grant Thornton brand and services.’
Smith has more than 30 years of experience of the accounting and business issues of industries including manufacturing, distribution, service and technology, and has served clients ranging from large owner-managed organisations to publicly traded multinational corporations.
He began his career with Grant Thornton in the firm’s Baltimore office before heading the assurance practice in Southern California and then becoming managing partner of the greater Bay Area offices.
