Ashmore Group, a publicly owned investment manager, has invested EUR5.1m in the London listed investment scheme, Ashmore Global Opportunities.
The company invested through its wholly owned subsidiary, Ashmore Management, using cash resources in hand and the investment represents 1.88 per cent of Ashmore Global Opportunities’ voting rights.
Ashmore Global Opportunities mainly focuses on making investments in special situations, which is the company’s private equity/distressed debt investment theme.
Ashmore believes the opportunity to make investments in non-distressed assets at distressed prices is strong at present.
Ashmore Global Opportunities had gross assets of USD566.9m and recorded a loss of USD203.5m for the period ended 31 December 2008.
