Advanced Capital bolsters energy expertise with hire of Alberto Clô

Advanced Capital, the European alternative investment specialist headed up by financier Robert Tomei, has hired energy expert, academic and former government minister Alberto Clô as a Special Advisor for investments in the energy industry.

Clô’s addition to the team deepens the firm’s expertise in the energy sector, after its recent move into the area with the launch of the Advanced Capital Energy Fund niche energy fund of funds.

A highly respected figure in academia, industry and Italian politics, Clô is an independent director at infrastructure titans Iren, Atlantia, and Italcementi. He holds the Professorship of Applied Economics at Bologna University, is the chief editor of Energia magazine and is the author of Oil Economics and Policy.

Clô previously held the position of Minister of Industry and Foreign trade in the Italian government, chairing the Council of the EU’s Ministers of Industry and Energy in 1996, and was subsequently made Cavaliere di Gran Croce – Italy’s highest honour – for his service.

Robert Tomei (pictured), CEO of Advanced Capital, says: “Alberto’s world-renowned expertise in energy and infrastructure provides us with another level of insight that will help us to identify the very best opportunities for the Advanced Capital Energy Fund. Additionally, at a time of upheaval and opportunity in the energy sector, Alberto’s front line experience in national and international energy politics provides us with a unique perspective which will help to set the Advanced Capital Energy Fund apart as an investment opportunity.”

Clô’s appointment underlines Advanced Capital’s decisive move towards increasingly targeted fund launches.  While the firm’s pure private equity funds continue to provide outstanding returns, its new niche funds are designed to target sectors which can outperform a volatile global marketplace, plagued by slow growth in the largest western economies.
