Jonny Maxwell joins GMT Communications Partners as senior advisor

GMT Communications Partners has appointed Jonny Maxwell as senior advisor.

Maxwell (pictured) brings a wealth of general and limited partners’ perspective spanning almost 30 years, having managed and raised many successful funds during that time.

GMT is a private equity investor in the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector, actively investing in the European marketplace for the past 20 years.

Formerly global head of private equity fund of funds at Allianz Private Equity Partners, Maxwell had overall responsibility for indirect private equity activities. Allianz, one of the world’s largest insurance companies, then managed in excess of EUR6.4bn of private equity fund assets.

Prior to joining Allianz in 2007, Maxwell was founder and chief executive at Standard Life Investments (Private Equity) in Edinburgh, Scotland, now known as SL Capital Partners. During his 17 years at Standard Life he built the private equity business and assets from a small single client operation into an international multi-client manager with private equity assets over EUR5.5bn.

He began his career in private equity in 1984 at Stewart Fund Managers and has been involved in both fund and direct investment transactions throughout.

Maxwell has served on the advisory boards and investment committees of a number of private equity funds.

Maxwell has also recently joined the advisory board of Argentex, a foreign exchange specialist providing bespoke advisory and execution services to corporates, institutions, government agencies and not-for-profit organisations, where he will work closely with the advisory board chairman, Lord Digby Jones.

Tim Green, managing partner at GMT, says: “We are delighted to welcome Jonny on board at GMT. We have previously benefited from our relationship with Jonny and his invaluable guidance, and we’re delighted to take the step to officially welcome him to the team. We’re certain that Jonny’s vast industry knowledge will be of tremendous help to us over the coming years. “

Maxwell says: “I am very much looking forward to working with the close-knit team at GMT. It holds a unique position as Europe’s most established, long-standing investor in the ever evolving TMT space. This experienced team has a sophisticated and highly differentiated strategy, investing in both buyouts and growth capital opportunities and is in the perfect position to maximise their deep sector knowledge and continue to create substantial value for their investors through highly attractive investment opportunities.”
