Caerphilly-based Direct Healthcare Group has acquired Nightingale Care Beds, a provider of specialist bariatric products.
The deal is the first in a series of planned acquisitions for the Direct Healthcare Group. The Group was formed following the management buyout of Direct Healthcare Services (DHS) in April this year, which was backed by NorthEdge Capital.
Nightingale, based in Wrexham, has more than 20 years’ experience providing bariatric equipment and services to a range of healthcare sectors. It has developed a reputation for market-leading service and support, and is renowned for its bariatric support packages, which are configured to suit specific requirements.
With clinical obesity a growing public health concern, healthcare bodies need more cost effective and responsive suppliers of bariatric products and services, often for emergency or unplanned situations.Patients in this area are a particularly high-risk group as they often have other disorders or diseases, making their care requirements potentially more complex and time delays more critical.
DHS works with a range of healthcare clients, including acute and community NHS Trusts, and exports to over 20 countries worldwide. The company employs over 80 staff and received the Queen’s Enterprise Award for Innovation earlier this year.
Graham Ewart, Managing Director of Direct Healthcare Group, said Nightingale’s offering would fit “seamlessly” with the firm’s existing product and service portfolio.
“Direct Healthcare Services and Nightingale share a customer and patient-centric ethos, and are committed to supporting healthcare professionals deliver harm free patient care,” he added.
“We are delighted to acquire such a well-respected brand and highly committed team. We are also pleased to be able to extend best value to all our customers in the increasingly demanding area of bariatric patient care.”
Michael Joseph, Chairman at NorthEdge Capital, who represents NorthEdge on the board of DHS added: “The enlarged Direct Healthcare Group will further deliver exceptional patient care through an enhanced product offering. We are highly supportive of the team as they execute a buy-and-build strategy.”
