Grpwth private equity firm General Atlantic has appointed Achim Berg, former Chief Executive Officer of arvato AG, as an Operating Partner effective 1 April, 2016. Berg. who will work closely with the firm’s portfolio companies both in Germany and globally, will be based in General Atlantic’s Munich office.

Berg most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of arvato AG, a leading provider of media and business communications and technology services, which is subsidiary of German media conglomerate Bertelsmann SE. In this role, he was responsible for the strategy and operative business of Bertelsmann’s largest division with 70,000 employees. He also served as a member of the Executive Board of Bertelsmann. Berg also serves as Vice President and a member of the Executive Board of BITKOM, Germany’s Federal Association of Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media.
Prior to arvato, Berg held a number of senior management positions at Microsoft, most recently as Corporate Vice President of the Windows Phone division at the U.S. corporate headquarters, and before that, General Manager of Microsoft Germany and Area Vice President of Microsoft International. Prior to this, Berg served on the Executive Board of T-Com, Europe’s largest telecommunications company, where he was responsible for the marketing and sales of landlines. Earlier in his career, Berg worked at Fujitsu Siemens Computers GmbH, Dell Deutschland GmbH and Bull AG. Berg completed his studies in computer science in 1989 in Cologne and completed the European Potential Management Program at the European Economic School.
