British private equity firm Actis has paid around $500 million to acquire a portfolio of Latin American data centres from Nabiax, a Spanish data processing centre operator owned by Asterion Industrial Partners and Telefonica.
The portfolio includes 11 data centres in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, plus a small exposure in the US state of Florida, with a combined IT load capacity of 23 MW and the potential to expand. Nabiax will continue to own and operate its European assets.
The centres were originally built by Telefonica for both its own operations and other clients, and the company remains an anchor tenant under a long-term contract.
This transaction is Actis’ seventh investment in the digital infrastructure industry, with over $1billion currently committed in the sector, and complements the firm’s five existing data centre platforms in Asia and Africa.
Actis says the Latin American data centre sector market is forecast to grow by 2.5x over the next five years driven by the expansion of data creation and consumption and artificial intelligence.
