Adams Street Partners names Jeff Akers to lead secondary investments team

Adams Street Partners has appointed Jeff Akers, who joined the firm in 2006, as head of secondary investments.

In this role, Akers will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the secondary business, including strategy, investments, fundraising and portfolio construction.

Akers will succeed Jason Gull, who recently announced that he will be retiring from both Adams Street and the secondary industry, effective at the end of 2016, to spend more time with his family and on service opportunities.

“We would like to thank Jason for his contributions to Adams Street and wish him well,” says Jeff Diehl, managing partner at Adams Street Partners. “I would also like to congratulate Jeff Akers on his well-deserved promotion and we look forward to his leadership. Our secondary team has a long track record of success, and they are well-positioned to capitalise on the attractive returns available in the growing secondary marketplace.”

Akers has also been appointed as a member of the Adams Street Partners executive committee and is the chairman of the secondary investments committee. He has nearly two decades of experience in the financial services industry, and has previously worked at LEK Consulting, William Blair & Company, and SunTrust Equitable Securities.

“On behalf of my partners, I want to thank Jason for his contribution to our secondary programme; he has been a good friend and colleague,” says Akers. “We are fortunate to have a deep and experienced investment team with strong industry leading relationships. As a result, we feel very well positioned competitively in the current environment and we are excited about our future.”

The secondary investments team at Adams Street Partners consists of 13 investment professionals, and has completed over 190 secondary deals since the beginning of the investment strategy in 1986.
