Global private equity firm Advent International has recruited four new members to its Boston-based North American deal team, with Mohammed Anjarwala joining as principal and Nicholas Pike, Christopher Ryan and Sarah Smith as associates. Advent says the appointments support its USD3.3bn GPE buyout programme, which invests primarily in North America and Western Europe.

Over the past year, the firm says, it has realised significant proceeds from 20 exits, having invested USD1.2bn in 13 companies from nine countries last year. Recent transactions in North America include the IPOs of lululemon athletica, a designer and retailer of technical athletic apparel, and of the IPO of Boart Longyear, a provider of drilling services and products, and the acquisition of Sophis, a provider of portfolio and risk management solutions, which was led by the French deal team in collaboration with their US counterparts.

‘Our global buyout team of 110 investment professionals is one of the largest and most experienced in the industry,’ says David Mussafer, managing director and head of Advent International in North America.

‘These appointments add tremendous buyout and sector expertise while bolstering our deal-making capacity in North America. Advent continues to be extremely well positioned to leverage our international capabilities in cross-border and complex transactions.

Anjarwala brings a wealth of private equity experience from his years with SFW Capital Partners and Bain Capital Partners. At Advent, he will focus on buy-out opportunities in the industrial sector.

Pike joins from UBS Investment Bank in New York, where he worked in the financial sponsors and leveraged finance group, while Ryan was part of the private equity group at Boston-based consulting firm Parthenon Group.

Smith joins Advent from McKinsey in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she worked in the firm’s North American private equity practice. The three associates will join sector-focused deal teams, specifically business and financial services, industrial, and retail and consumer.

Advent International has more than 100 investment professionals at offices in 14 countries in Western and Central Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia. Since its establishment in 1984, the firm has raised USD12bn in private equity capital and completed more than 200 buyout and private equity transactions valued at more than USD30bn in 35 countries.
