Private equity firm AE Industrial Partners is weighing a potential sale of York Space Systems that could value the satellite manufacturer at more than $2bn, according to a report by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The Florida-based buyout group has reportedly engaged an adviser to initiate a formal auction process for the Colorado-based aerospace company. Early interest has emerged from strategic buyers and private equity firms, including MDA Space, the Canadian space-technology firm, sources said.
While AE Industrial and MDA Space declined to comment, and York Space did not respond to requests for comment, industry observers expect the deal to attract considerable attention given the company’s growth trajectory and the rising investor appetite for space infrastructure assets.
AE Industrial acquired a majority stake in York Space Systems in November 2022. The company’s founder, Dirk Wallinger, has remained in place as CEO and a board director since the transaction. Founded in 2012, York designs and manufactures low-Earth orbit (LEO), geosynchronous equatorial orbit (GEO), and cislunar spacecraft solutions, serving a mix of government and commercial customers.
