Agrifirma Brazil, the agricultural investment firm launched last year by Ian Watson and Jim Slater, is planning to raise USD15m from new investors through a private placement.
Agrifirma Brazil aims to capitalise on long-term growth in commodity prices by acquiring undeveloped land in Brazil and transforming it into productive farmland.
It says this strategy generates returns in two ways: through the increase in land value, an estimated net return of 100 per cent over three to five years; and through the production and sale of agricultural commodities.
The money raised through the placing will be used in developing the 42,000 hectares of land which Agrifirma Brazil has already acquired, and in funding the option it has to acquire an additional 27,000 hectares at today’s price over a four-year period.
