Akin Gump has appointed Allen Shyu as a partner in the firm’s Beijing office. Shyu comes to Akin Gump from Stephenson Harwood, where he was the lead partner in the Beijing office.
Shyu’s practice focuses on advising mid-sized and large-scale public companies on equity capital markets and corporate M&A transactions, particularly in the energy and natural resources sector. A native of Taiwan, Shyu also provides regular counsel to Taiwanese companies issuing equity and equity-linked securities and venture capital/private equity transactions for emerging companies in that market.
“Allen’s arrival significantly boosts our capital markets, corporate and energy offerings in mainland China,” says Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “Clients in Beijing, Hong Kong and across the region will benefit significantly from his experience, and I am very pleased to welcome Allen to Akin Gump.”
Shyu will work closely with colleagues in the firm’s Hong Kong office and across the firm’s top-tier global corporate and capital markets practices.
“Allen’s many strengths and strong relationships with lawyers at the firm will mesh very well with our team in the United States and across the world,” says Sebastian Rice, partner in charge of Akin Gump’s Asia practice. “He will also be a huge asset to clients in Asia, particularly in mainland China, and I am excited to have him on our team in Beijing.”
Shyu says: “Akin Gump has built up steadily in Asia in a very focused and strategic way. I look forward to helping the firm continue to expand its presence, particularly with regard to M&A and IPO work, and in furthering client relationships across mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.”
