Anderson Strathern advises jeweller ROX on GBP2m expansion

Anderson Strathern’s Glasgow commercial real estate team of solicitors has advised jewellery firm ROX in the latest phase of its expansion plans south of the border to prime locations in Leeds and Newcastle.

ROX is investing GBP2m to open its first stores outside of Scotland in a move expected to bring in an additional GBP3m of annual sales and will create up to 20 jobs across both locations.

Led by commercial real estate expert Paul Jennings, Anderson Strathern advised on the company’s lease agreements for premises in the Trinity Leeds shopping centre and Monument Mall in Newcastle with both sites expected to be up and running in October 2013.

Anderson Strathern first advised ROX on the lease agreement for its Edinburgh store which opened at the Assembly Rooms on George Street in September 2012, adding to its existing stores in Glasgow’s Argyll Arcade, Silverburn, Braehead and Aberdeen’s Union Square.

ROX was founded in 2002 by Kyron Keogh and his childhood friend Grant Mitchell.

Keogh says: “We’ve had our eye on opening down south for quite some time but you need to find the right location. The team at Anderson Strathern were instrumental in the transaction and provided excellent legal and strategic advice. It is a strong tenants’ market at the moment and Paul Jennings’ team was able to strike a good deal in both cases to assist with our expansion."

Jennings says: “It has been a pleasure working with Kyron and his team at ROX as they continue their growth with these significant openings in the north of England. At such a challenging time for the retail industry, it’s great to be part of such an innovative and exciting business.”
