Anthropic explores AI JV with PE firms

Anthropic is reportedly in discussions with private equity investors, including Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman, to establish a joint venture focused on commercialising its AI technology, according to a report by The Information.

The proposed partnership would aim to deploy Anthropic’s Claude AI across companies owned or backed by the investment firms, potentially offering integration and consulting services similar to Palantir’s business model.

The report cites sources familiar with the discussions as noting that while the talks were briefly affected by a dispute with the US government over military restrictions on Anthropic’s AI, negotiations are continuing. The Pentagon recently indicated that Anthropic’s tools could remain in use by the Department of Defense beyond a previously planned six-month phase-out if considered critical to national security.

Neither Anthropic nor Blackstone has provided comment on the potential joint venture.
