Apollo appoints Head of Japan

Alternative asset management firm Apollo Global Management has named Yasuo Kashiwagi as Head of Japan, overseeing the firm’s strategy and local operations across asset management, capital solutions, and wealth and retirement offerings.

Kashiwagi joins Apollo from Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation, where he served as Senior Managing Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Executive of the Asset Management & Investor Services Business Unit. He also held senior roles at Nomura Holdings in Europe and the US, bringing over 30 years of global financial leadership experience.

Apollo has maintained an active presence in Asia Pacific for nearly two decades, opening a dedicated Tokyo office in 2019 and expanding its platform across origination, insurance, and wealth. The firm’s team in Japan has grown to over 30 professionals and manages approximately $20bn in assets through its integrated platform with Athene.

In his new role, Kashiwagi will lead Apollo’s next phase of growth in Japan, deepening institutional and regulatory relationships, expanding lending and retirement solutions, and overseeing local execution across private credit, hybrid, and private equity strategies.

Apollo’s recent activity in Japan includes adding senior professionals across wealth management, credit, and hybrid businesses, providing capital support to blue-chip companies, and forming partnerships to expand lending and retirement offerings.
