Apollo Global Management is bolstering its European presence by relocating Managing Director Adriaan van der Knaap from New York to London. This move is part of the firm’s strategy to boost its capital solutions team across Europe.
In his new role, van der Knaap will collaborate with Leslie Mapondera and Tristram Leach, Apollo’s co-heads of European credit, focusing on large corporate origination.
The firm, headquartered in New York, is directing its European efforts towards key areas including energy transition, infrastructure and artificial intelligence. These sectors are seen as pivotal as businesses navigate challenges amid a broader reduction in traditional bank lending.
This strategic move aligns with a trend among US alternative asset managers to expand their footprint in Europe. Blue Owl Capital has been actively growing its European team, and Antares Capital is exploring potential acquisitions on the continent to scale its operations.
