Aptana, a provider of open source tools and services for web application development and management, has completed a USD7.8m round of financing led by Rembrandt Venture Partners and including initial investor Accel Partners.

"Aptana recently surpassed four million downloads of Aptana Studio, the leading open source IDE for web application development. This investment now provides us with the horsepower required to leverage this growing developer community by bringing them compelling web application platform services for the Cloud," says Paul Colton (pictured), founder and chief executive of Aptana.

Aptana launched the first version of their Aptana Cloud service in late 2008. The service provides a complete end-to-end solution for deploying, scaling, staging, managing and monitoring web applications.

"Rembrandt is delighted to be investors in Aptana and we are excited about the Company’s tremendous traction with developers. We believe the company is now poised to capitalize on their nearlyfour4 million downloads of Studio by giving developers the ability to ‘click and deploy’ their applications to the cloud computing environment," says Douglas Schrier, general partner at Rembrandt Ventures.

Rembrandt was established as a formal venture fund in 2004 to provide private equity capital to early stage technology companies and currently has approximately USD200m under management. The firm pursues investments in a variety of sectors including enterprise software and services, internet infrastructure, communications, next generation wireless sectors and new media convergence companies.
