Ares investment ups brand manager valuation to $1.6bn

The value of brand management firm WHP Global, whose holdings include Anne Klein, Joseph Abboud, Toys”R”Us, Lotto and a 60% interest in fashion apparel retailer Express Inc, has risen to $1.6 billion following a $375 million investment from the private equity unit of Ares Management Corporation, according to a report by Reuters.

The value of brand management firm WHP Global, whose holdings include Anne Klein, Joseph Abboud, Toys”R”Us, Lotto and a 60% interest in fashion apparel retailer Express Inc, has risen to $1.6 billion following a $375 million investment from the private equity unit of Ares Management Corporation, according to a report by Reuters.

WHP, which was founded in 2019 by retail industry veteran Yehuda Shmidman in partnership with funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, says it will use the funds to finance future mergers and acquisitions. 

As well as acquiring global consumer brands, WHP Global also invests in high-growth distribution channels including digital commerce platforms.

Ares Private Equity Group partners Jordan Smith and Aaron Rosen are joining WHP Global’s board of directors as part of the deal.
