Angelo Gordon has announced that Arthur Peponis has joined the firm as co-head of private equity and special situations.
He previously spent 16 years at Goldman Sachs, most recently as a partner in the financial sponsors group.
‘We are delighted to welcome Art on board at a time of unprecedented activity and opportunity for our firm,’ says David Roberts, who oversees Angelo Gordon’s private equity and special situations activities. ‘Just as changes in the markets provide us with compelling investment opportunities, they also provide us with opportunities to attract world class talent. Art is a great example of that.’
Prior to joining Angelo Gordon, Peponis was a member of Goldman’s financial sponsors group where he served as chief operating officer and managed the investment banking activities for a host of leading private equity firms. In that capacity, he originated and completed over 150 M&A/advisory assignments and bookrunner financings, and also helped to source over USD3bn of investments for Goldman’s principal investment area.
Angelo Gordon’s private equity group is currently investing its fourth fund which closed at the end of 2008. The team makes control investments with deal sizes ranging from USD50m to USD500m. Sector expertise includes financial services, healthcare services, and consumer/retail.
‘The chance to work with David Roberts and the private equity team is a tremendous one,’ says Peponis. ‘By harnessing the synergies of the broader Angelo Gordon platform, we will have the ability to generate compelling, proprietary private equity transactions. It is an unparalleled opportunity.’
