Pan-European mid-market investor Aurelius is acquiring the commercial activities of the Abelan Group (Abelan) in Germany and the Netherlands.
In 2015, the acquired activities generated revenues of approximately €50 million. The completion of the transaction is scheduled for the end of June 2016; the financial terms of the deal are undisclosed.
The acquired activities consist of:
A paper mill in Viersen, Germany: At its German facility the Company produces special grades of cardboard for use in the manufacture of solid board boxes, tubes and mandrels, corner pieces, cones, separators and many other applications for the hygiene, tissue and other industrials markets.
A solid board packaging plant in Fibor in the Netherlands: This packaging plant, which manufactures all of its products from recovered paper, is a significant supplier to the European food and horticulture sectors. This facility specialises in the printing, die cutting, creasing-folding and assembly of solid board containers and boxes.
This transaction creates potential synergies across production, purchasing and sales with the Aurelius portfolio company Solidus Solutions, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of solid board and printed cardboard in Europe with production facilities in the UK, Netherlands and Belgium. Aurelius acquired Solidus in April 2015.
Dr Dirk Markus, Chief Executive of Aurelius, says: “Abelan is a very attractive addition to our portfolio of mid-sized industrial enterprises for which we see significant operational improvement potential. We believe that 2016 will be a very good year for Aurelius and are currently working hard on further company acquisitions and exits.”
