Bain Capital acquires Apleona from PAI Partners in reported €4bn deal

Bain Capital has agreed to acquire Apleona, a German integrated facilities management (FM) provider, from private equity firm PAI Partners, in a deal led by Bain Capital’s European Private Equity team with a reported value of around €4bn ($4.2bn).

Apleona specialises in delivering innovative, high-quality services to regional and cross-border clients. The company is particularly focused on ESG solutions, offering products that enhance energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions in buildings, a sector experiencing growing demand across Europe.

Under PAI Partners’ ownership since 2021, Apleona has undergone significant transformation, achieving a milestone of €4bn in revenue in 2024. The company has expanded its footprint across Europe through 14 strategic acquisitions, including the pivotal purchase of Gegenbauer in 2023. It has also invested heavily in digital transformation, integrating data-driven and AI-based technologies for building management, such as predictive maintenance systems and advanced HVAC control solutions.

In a press statement, Apleona’s CEO, Dr Jochen Keysberg, expressed optimism about the partnership with Bain Capital, noting that the company would continue operating as an independent entity, with a focus on further growth, acquisitions, and leveraging advanced technologies to support sustainability initiatives.

“Under Bain Capital’s ownership, Apleona will strengthen its position as a leader in integrated facility management, offering cutting-edge digital solutions and sustainable services to help decarbonize buildings. We thank PAI Partners for their strong support and look forward to the next phase of growth,” Keysberg said.

Bain Capital, known for its investments in sustainability-focused businesses, sees Apleona as a key player in the push for greener building management. Michael Siefke, Partner and Chair of Europe Private Equity at Bain Capital, praised Apleona’s recent transformation and outlined plans to leverage Bain’s global resources and industry expertise to support its future growth.

“Apleona has demonstrated impressive progress in recent years, particularly in sustainability and decarbonisation efforts. We are excited to partner with the company to accelerate its growth and development in the integrated facility management sector,” Siefke said.
