Baker & McKenzie adds three lawyers to private equity practice

Law firm Baker & McKenzie has hired three private equity lawyers in Chicago:  William S. Kirsch, Stacey T. Kern and Garry W. Jaunal.

Kirsch (pictured) will chair the private equity practice in North America and will serve as a member of the firm’s Global Private Equity Steering Committee.
“The combination of our global platform and capabilities built over the past 60 years and Bill Kirsch, one of the most talented, prominent and uniquely experienced corporate lawyers in private equity, mergers and acquisitions, reorganisations and boardroom representation, will enable Baker & McKenzie to move to the forefront in this new era of complexity and opportunity,” says Eduardo Leite, chairman of the firm’s executive committee.
Kirsch brings more than 25 years of experience representing a broad cross section of both the private equity community and large public companies. He previously was a leader of the corporate group at Kirkland & Ellis. He also served as outside General Counsel to the private equity fund in Chicago and was the chief executive officer of a Fortune 500 public company.
Kern’s practice focuses on M&A, private equity, restructuring and general corporate representation. She has represented a broad range of private equity funds, public and private companies and Chapter 11 debtors.  She formerly was a partner with Kirsch at Kirkland & Ellis, and most recently was a partner in the private equity group at DLA Piper.

Jaunal’s practice focuses primarily on borrower-side representation of private equity clients and their portfolio companies. He has extensive experience in corporate governance, debt financing and creditors’ rights, including secured lending transactions and financial restructurings. Also a former partner of Kirsch’s at Kirkland & Ellis, Jaunal became a lawyer following a career in energy and consulting.
