Private equity real estate firm Benson Elliot Capital Management has made three additions to its management team as it continues to expand its business across Europe, with Joseph P. DeLeo joining from Fortress Investment Group as a partner and director of portfolio management and Chris Coulson arriving from Lordship Estates as development director.

DeLeo, who has 12 years’ private equity real estate experience, was a managing director at Fortress where he headed a team of 40 professionals overseeing commercial real estate investment management activities in Germany, including management of a EUR5.4bn portfolio consisting of 600 office and retail properties. Previously he was vice-president for corporate development and investments at Oxford Properties Group, a Toronto-based real estate investment company.

Coulson has 15 years’ experience in conceiving, implementing and delivering real estate projects in all major sectors. As development director for Lordship Estates, a major investor and developer in Central and Eastern Europe, he managed office, hotel, retail and mixed-use projects in the region with an end value of some EUR500 million.

Most recently he managed Centre Plaza Bratislava, a 200,000-square metre urban regeneration scheme in the Slovak capital. Coulson previously was in-house development director for an affiliate of Marriott International.

Benson Elliot has also appointed Dorothée Wintle, a member of both the New York and Paris bars as general counsel. As the company’s senior in-house legal professional, Wintle will oversee its corporate and investment activities and manage external counsel on transactional and other matters.

‘As we consider the opportunities and challenges our sector will confront in the next few years, the ability to attract top calibre talent will continue to be decisive in delivering investment success and market leading returns,’ says Benson Elliot managing partner Marc Mogull. ‘The expertise of these experienced and respected professionals will prove invaluable as we service the investments we have made for Benson Elliot Real Estate Partners II and drive to achieve our ambitions for future funds.’
