BlackRock backs secondary market platform Caplight in Series A round

Caplight, a platform providing pricing data and transaction infrastructure for private company shares, has raised $16m in a Series A funding round co-led by BlackRock and Fin Capital, according to a report by Bloomberg.

UBS joined the round as a strategic investor and partner, while existing investors including Deutsche Börse, Better Tomorrow Ventures, Clocktower Ventures and Dash Fund also participated. Terms of the transaction, including valuation, were not disclosed.

Caplight operates in the growing private company secondary market and provides pricing intelligence, transaction data and matching services designed to improve transparency and liquidity across private assets. The company’s platform reportedly includes more than $300bn of proprietary secondary transaction data and approximately $4tn of funding-round data across more than 100,000 private companies and investors.

The new capital will support expansion beyond secondary pricing and liquidity solutions into areas including co-investments, primary fundraising, tender offers and financing tools for venture market participants.
