The individuals appointed are joining the team headed by London-based Leo van den Thillart, managing partner, private equity funds group.
‘The appointments are designed to add considerable strength to our private equity funds group and provide us with broader and deeper geographic coverage, especially in Europe and in Asia,’ says van den Thillart. ‘The appointments are part of a concerted programme by Brookfield to enhance our global alternative asset management activities.’
Peter Thomson will cover the UK and the Middle East, implementing and executing fundraising strategies and managing private equity institutional relationships, which he will carry out from Brookfield’s London offices. He was previously a managing director of the private funds group at Bear Stearns, J.P. Morgan and was responsible for project management as well as the distribution of private equity, real estate and real asset funds in the UK and Middle East.
Robert von Herrmann will cover continental Europe with special focus on the German-speaking countries implementing and executing fundraising strategies and managing private equity institutional relationships, which he will carry out from Munich. He was previously managing director of the private funds group at Bear Stearns, J.P. Morgan and was responsible for the distribution of private equity, real estate and real asset funds in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Paul Tam will cover Asia. He will carry out his duties from Brookfield’s Hong Kong offices. He was previously managing director of Bear Stearns, J.P. Morgan and a partner of Crane Capital Associates. His responsibilities included the origination and due diligence of Asian private equity, real estate and hedge funds as well as placement of alternative funds with investors in the US and Asia.
Alexander Apponyi will cover Scandinavian and Benelux countries, implementing and executing fundraising strategies and managing private equity institutional relationships, which he will carry out from Brookfield’s London offices. Since 2005 he has been a partner at BerchWood Partners where he set up the firm’s London office and bolstered its European activities. He was previously at UBS Investment Bank where he helped to set up the European private equity placement group.
Scott E. White will be responsible for deal execution and project management, which he will carry out from New York. He was previously head of deal execution and deal manager responsible for capital raising assignments at Citi Alternative Investments.
With these appointments, the Brookfield global private equity institutional relationships team will have full-scale operations in four major regional offices on four continents, supported by a project management, deal execution and operations team.
